Dolphina Park is thrilled to announce the birth of a new bottlenose dolphin calf on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, in our Sharm El-Sheikh location. This momentous occasion marks the first offspring of our 28-year-old dolphin mother, Marta.
The newborn calf, a male, has been observed to be approximately 100 cm long and weighs around 25 kg. Both mother and calf will remain out of public view for the next few months and under 24-hour observation. This precaution is taken as first-time dolphin mothers may experience complications or require additional time to learn how to care for their young properly.
Aquarium officials report that the calf has stayed close to Marta’s side, demonstrating a strong bond between mother and baby. Immediately after birth, our animal care observers witnessed the calf eagerly swimming to the water’s surface for its first breath, a critical moment in its early life.
“To watch a dolphin be born is beautiful,” said the Observer Senior Director of Marine Mammals in a press release. “But to also see its natural instincts fully take over in a matter of seconds as it kicks its tiny tail to propel its little body to the surface to take its first breath is overwhelmingly emotional.”
This birth is a significant milestone for Dolphina Park and reflects our ongoing commitment to marine life care and conservation. We look forward to sharing more updates about our newest addition as he grows and thrives under the expert care of our dedicated team.
Stay tuned to our social media channels and website for more updates on Marta and her adorable calf. We can’t wait to introduce him to all our visitors in the near future!
